The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) at Stanford University is now accepting applications for teaching positions in the first-year requirement. We seek candidates from all fields in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM, and especially value interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching. We encourage applications from candidates whose backgrounds and life experiences bring additional perspectives and dimensions to the University’s teaching mission. We have a strong preference for candidates who will have a PhD by June 2023, or earned the PhD no earlier than 2017.

Multiple positions up to three and four years are available, and we are hiring for two different first-year programs. The COLLEGE (Civic, Liberal, and Global Education) program welcomes all disciplines, while SLE (Structured Liberal Education) is a residential program focusing on the arts and humanities. All positions are full-time academic staff in Stanford Introductory Studies and receive standard Stanford employee benefits including health insurance. The annual salary will be at least $80,194 (paid over 12 months).

• The COLLEGE Fellowship is open to internal Stanford candidates, which means current Stanford doctoral students, recently graduated Stanford PhDs, and current or recent postdoctoral scholars. We expect to hire 6-8 fellows for these three-year positions teaching in COLLEGE.
• The Stanford Introductory Studies Fellowship to Diversify Teaching and Learning is open to external candidates, and seeks candidates to teach in either the COLLEGE program or the SLE program. We expect to hire 3-5 fellows, for up to three or four years depending on the program.
  • Special note: Internal Stanford applicants who wish to apply to SLE should submit to the Stanford Introductory Studies Fellowship to Diversify Teaching and Learning. If you are also applying for the internal COLLEGE Fellowship, it is fine to submit identical materials where appropriate.

Applications will close February 1, 2023, and must be submitted through Interfolio according to the instructions on the respective fellowship page. We expect to be inviting first-round interviews anytime from early March through late April. We are searching for multiple positions and our specific needs often evolve during the process of the search, so we may be operating on multiple timelines simultaneously.
